Read More	The Hawk Eye, April 6, 2017 Donna Diane Rayner Brinkmeyer, 91, of New London, Iowa, died on April 3, 2017 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Born September 4, 1925, in Riverside, Iowa, she was the daughter of Ross and Theodora Peet Rayner. She grew up on a farm near Lone Tree, Iowa, and attended a one room school where her mother was her teacher. She graduated from Lone Tree High School and taught briefly in a one room school herself. On May 29, 1945, she married Dale L. Brinkmeyer in the chapel on the Blackland Army Air Corps Base in Waco, Texas where Dale was stationed. While Dale served she worked for the Army Air Corps. When the war ended she and Dale attended Iowa State University. While Dale earned his veterinary degree she earned her degree in home economics, and they both graduated in 1951. They moved to New London, Iowa, where he practiced veterinary medicine, and she made a home and raised three children. Dale always credited Diane with creating a wonderful home for his beloved family. They were married for 71 years and were completely devoted to each other, and, as Diane was fond of saying, “Had a lot of fun together.” A sixty-five year member of the New London Presbyterian Church she served as an elder and a Sunday school teacher, as well as president of the Presbyterian Women Association. The altar at the Presbyterian Church was frequently graced with bouquets of her hybrid tea roses which were her passion and her pleasure. She also was a regular visitor to residents at the New London Care Center bringing them the scents and colors of her garden. In her community, she was a girl scout leader, a 4-H leader, and an avid music booster. Survivors include two daughters: Denise Bell (David) of New London, Donna Brinkmeyer (Lance McAllister) of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; one son: Dirk Brinkmeyer (Diane) of Bradenton, Fla.; two brothers: Kenneth Rayner of New London and Keith Rayner of Lone Tree; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Diane was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Memorials have been established for Hope Haven and Camp Courageous. Gifts may be sent to 206 S. Orchard Lane, New London, IA 52645. Private family burial will be accorded.
