Private family services will be held at Split Rock Lutheran Church. Donna Fern Dirksen was born on April 26, 1932 in Lennox, SD to Dirk R. and Thrya (Peterson) Dirksen. She was raised and received her education in Lennox, SD. Following high school, Donna continued her education at General Beadle College in Madison, SD. Donna was united in marriage to Merle M. Gile on September 20, 1953 in Luverne, MN. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls, SD and were blessed with three children. Donna worked at Midland National Life Insurance Company for over 20-years. She was a longtime member of Split Rock Lutheran Church in rural Brandon, where she was a member of the ladies' guild. Grateful for having shared her life are her three children, Robert Gile and his wife Jana of Cape Girardeau, MO, Dedra Patton and her husband, Rick of Ramsey, MN and William Gile and his wife Lynette of Monrovia, CA; nine grandchildren, Matthew Gile and his wife, Marlene of Laurel, MD, John Gile of Costa Mesa, CA; Elizabeth Seifert and her husband, Bobby of Lancaster, OH, Carson Patton of Ramsey, MN, Eric Patton and his wife, Melissa of Weaverville, NC, Justin Gile of Monrovia, CA, Luke Gile of Monrovia, CA and Anjanette Gile of Monrovia, CA; five great-grandchildren, Zoe & Olivia Gile of Laurel, MD, Victoria, Braiden and Isabella Patton of Weaverville, NC; many dearly loved nieces and nephews. Donna is preceded in death by her husband, Merle M. Gile on March 22, 2014; her parents, Dirk and Thyra Dirksen; one brother, Richard Dirksen and one sister, Marilyn Reiners. - George Boom Funeral Home
