Her funeral service was Saturday, May 22, 2021, at the Redfield Wesleyan Church in Redfield, with Pastor Adrian Timmons officiating. Read More	onna Jean (Kamm) Karr, 91, of Redfield, SD, died unexpectedly Friday, May 14, 2021, at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield after a tragic accident. Her funeral service was Saturday, May 22, 2021, at the Redfield Wesleyan Church in Redfield, with Pastor Adrian Timmons officiating. Donna was born the seventh of eight children to Fred and Flossie (Clark) Kamm in Bristol, SD. The family would later move to Day County and then to the farm in Leola, where Donna and her siblings grew up. Donna always had wonderful memories and stories of that time in her life, and this is where her mischievous, fun-loving spirit and zest for life began. With great fondness, she recalled a time when she and her brother caught a gopher and brought it into the house to live in her mother's wooden planter in the living room. "It was a short-lived resident," she said laughingly. Other memories included family trips to town on Friday nights and everything the kids were able to buy for a quarter. During this time, Donna also lived with her sister Crystal and her brother-in-law Everett Suurmeyer on their farm, where she learned to drive the farm truck. "Only thing was no one taught me how to stop the thing, and I just kept going in circles until my nephew was able to jump out the window and get his dad to help." After graduation from school in Leola, Donna attended Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, where she earned her teaching certificate, and she taught in the Leola area until she and former schoolmate, Geane Karr, were married on November 5, 1948. The couple lived on the neighboring farm with Geane's folks until they moved to Raymond, SD, and started their family in 1950. They would move to Langdon, ND, and then back to Leola until 1953, when they moved to Conde, SD. They spent eight years in Conde before a brief move back to Leola in 1961. The family moved to Redfield, SD, in the mid-1960's and this is where Donna would call home for the remainder of her life. She worked at the Peavy Lumber Yard and later UBC. After 30 years with UBC, she semi-retired (she loved staying busy), and continued to work PT at Super Valu in Redfield as a cashier, and especially enjoyed working in the deli, as well as the Redfield Food Center in the deli. A believer in living life to its fullest, Donna enjoyed her time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless friends. She was a golfer, bowler, dancer, camper, traveler and loved painting and refinishing furniture. She was never afraid to try new things and always open for an adventure. She and Geane enjoyed traveling and camping and spent many summer vacations in the Black Hills and became winter Texans in 1995. In Texas, they enjoyed making new friends, dancing several nights a week, taking trips to South Padre Island, and many adventures to Mexico. She also loved eating ice cream cones with her great-grandchildren. To know Donna was to know love in its purest form. No matter what you were doing or wanted to do, Donna would be right there with you. She has left behind a lifetime of memories in her stories, her smile that touched upon so many, her laughter that made you smile and join in, and her unwavering love and support that warmed you like the rays of the sun and wrapped you in a big hug. Donna is survived by one daughter Connie (Dale) Karr-Baker of Harlingen, TX, son Ronald (Lori) Karr of Sioux Falls, SD; grandson Chris (Erika) Karr, Sioux Falls; granddaughter Liz (Matt) Lambertz of Sioux Falls, step-granddaughter Darla Baker of Minneapolis, MN, and great-grandchildren Eli, Weston, and Oscar Lambertz Sioux Falls, SD and Noah Hovorka Sioux Falls, SD and one sister, Aredela of Florida in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. Donna is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 51 years, Geane Karr, 3 sisters, 3 brothers, and infant daughter Peggy Karr. Hyke Funeral Home, Redfield, Spink, South Dakota
