The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 24 2013, at Smyrna Presbyterian Church (NC Hwy 65, Reidsville) with Pastor Tom Wray officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Born in Rockingham County on February 4, 1947, to Virginia Marie Puckett Richardson and the late William Ross Purgason, Donna Kaye was a graduate of Wentworth High School. She was a faithful member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church, retired from Food Lion and a past employee of Unifi, Inc. She was a beloved mother who came from a strong, close knit family and was a dedicated Christian. In addition to her mother, survivors include a son, Steven Ross Shelton, of Madison; daughters, Paula Shelton McBride (Billy Dwayne), of Sandy Ridge, Stephanie Shelton Dunlap (Erick Steven), of Mayodan; brother, Tom Purgason, of Eden; sisters, Hazel Russell, of Reidsville and Peggy Baynes, of Eden; six grandchildren, Heather Thacker, Rebecca McBride, Hannah McBride, Alec Dunlap, Sarah McBride, and Elizabeth McBride and a great-grandson, Jamison Best. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Sunday at the church and following the service in the church fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to Smyrna Presbyterian Church, c/o Ann Dixon, 291 Crowder Rd, Madison, NC 27025. Colonial Funeral Home in Madison is serving the family.
