She married William “Bill” Dwight Downing September 20, 1953 in Bloomfield. The couple lived on a farm northwest of Troy for 48 years where they raised three children. She was a nurse’s aide at the Davis County Hospital for 24 years, a homemaker, and raised Yorkshire Terriers. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Kris (Bob) Hougland, Lori (Mike) Lawson both of Bloomfield; son, Don (Denise) Downing of Ottumwa; eight grandchildren, Jason (Melissa) Hougland, Jessica Hougland, Troy Downing, Karie Downing, Alison Downing, Erin (Matt) Gorman, Cody Sickels, Shalayla Sickels; and five great-grandchildren, Chase and Alexis Hougland, Justyn Hale, and Chloe and Ethan Umphress. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald Leon Barker; and sister, Wilda “Shorty” Roberts. Cremation with burial of the cremains at a later date at the Troy Cemetery in Troy, Iowa.
