Description	:	Donna Applegate, 86, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Friday, February 8, 2013, at the Golden Living Center in Columbus after a long struggle with Alzheimers Disease. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 11, 10:30 A.M. at the Federated Church with Rev. Annika Lister Stroope officiating. Interment will be in the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Monday from 9:30 - 10:30 A.M. at the church with a family prayer service at 10:15 A.M. Memorials may be directed to Federated Church or family choice. Donna Lee Evans was born December 8, 1926, in rural Platte Center, Nebraska, to George B. and Alta P. (Obrist) Evans, Sr. She moved into Columbus as a young girl with her family and attended and graduated from Kramer High School in 1945. On May 29, 1947, Donna was united in marriage to Gene Applegate in Columbus, where they continued to live and make their home their entire lives. Donna worked for GTE Telephone her entire working career, starting out as a telephone operator and then working at the business office until her retirement with GTE in 1989. She was a member of the Federated Church and enjoyed lunches with GTE retiree's, horseracing, and traveling to casinos.
