Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of the late Geneva Mills Lanier and the son of the late Shuford Lanier and Juanita Jones Lanier. He was a graduate of Gaffney High School, was a United States Army Veteran, and enjoyed fishing. Mr. Lanier was retired from Duke Power and was of the Baptist Faith. Surviving is a son, Donnie S. Lanier and girlfriend, Sharon Ponder of Greer; a daughter, Laura Martin and husband, Everett of Blacksburg; a step-daughter, Bobbie Chadwick of Blacksburg; a brother, Keith Lanier and wife, Brenda of Gaffney; a brother-in-law, Verland Parris of Spartanburg; a sister-in-law, Vicki Lanier of Spartanburg; four grandchildren, Melissa Lanier, Connor Lanier and wife, Alisha, Amelia Martin and Jacob Martin. Mr. Lanier was preceded in death by two brothers, Shuford Lanier Jr. and Joe Dean Lanier; and a sister, Geraldine Parris. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Ashby Blakely officiating. Entombment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Alzheimers Foundation, 901 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC, 29302. The family will be at their respective homes.
