Description	:	Donovan D. Custer, 67, of Wenatchee, died Tuesday morning, March 4, 1997, in Central Washington Hospital. He was born on Aug. 17, 1929, to Carl Devern "Shorty" and Virginia Pauline (Franklin) Custer at Omak. He grew up there and in Loomis, where he received his early education. In 1945 he moved to Renton. Don enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946 and following his honorable discharge in 1948 he married Betty I. Hodgen on Dec. 20, 1948, at Leavenworth. They moved to Pilot Rock, Ore., where he was employed by Kerns Lumber Co. until moving to Pendleton, Ore., in 1972. In 1974 they moved to Athena, Ore., where they owned and operated the Quality Grocery until moving to Leavenworth in 1990. In 1992 they moved to Wenatchee. He is survived by his wife, Betty, of the family home; two sons, Michael Wayne Custer of Pilot Rock, Ore., and Ronald Eugene Custer of Spokane; three brothers, Robert Custer of Palm Springs, Calif., Gary Custer of Escondido, Calif., and Eddie Custer of Wenatchee; two sisters, Betty Norman of Leavenworth, and Marilyn Pipkin of Wenatchee; three granddaughters, Nicole Custer, Victoria Crane-Walker and Michelle Custer. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Carl, one sister Earlene Edmonds, and one grandson Charles Michael. At Don's request there will be no service. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Fund. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
