Stephens Wood, and a son Stephens Decatur County Journal December 9, 1897 Mrs. Dora Alice Stephens, daughter of Robert Albee of this city committed suicide at her home about 10 miles north of Hamburg, Iowa, on the evening of December 1, 1897 from a self inflicted gunshot wound to the forehead. A coroner's inquest held before J. P. Sanders rendered a verdict in accordance with the above statement. Ill health is the motive which prompted the rash act. The deceased leaves the husband, a daughter age 4 years and a son age 7 months. The remains accompanied by the husband and the two children were sent to Leon yesterday afternoon, leaving on the 5.05 train. Mrs. Stephens was laid to rest at Bethel Cemetery last Sunday. The little girl was turned over to the care of Mr. Stephens' sister at Chariton, Iowa. Records indicate the little boy was to be cared for by his grandfather or Mr. Stephens' sister. In Jonathon Stephens' obituary it was mentioned the little boy died at age 2 and the daughter married a Cliff Wood.
