Description	:	Dora Strand Horton, 91, of Centerville, SD died Feb. 5, 2011 at the Centerville Good Samaritan Center. Funeral services will be 2PM Tuesday, Feb. 8th at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford with visitation one hour prior to the service. Dora Horton was born January 28, 1920 in rural Vermillion, SD to Ole and Petra (Aalberg) Strand. She died February 5, 2011 in Centerville, SD at the age of 91 years and 7 days. As a child during the Depression, Dora was a house girl for John and Anna Hogan. She attended Greenfield School and was confirmed at St. Peter's Church in Burbank, SD. As a young woman, Dora worked at the Eastman Kodak store in Sioux City, IA, first as a clerk then as a photographer. During WWII, Dora took pictures of the soldiers and aircraft at the air base. She worked at Younkers and as a cook for Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. Dora married Floyd Horton Dec. 4, 1965. They lived in Wisconsin where Dora worked as a cook and as a seasonal worker at the cranberry marshes. They retired and moved to Centerville. Following Floyd's death on February 14, 2000, Dora continued to live in Centerville. She was a great cook, seamstress and the family photographer. She was a quiet woman who loved her family and friends. Her parents, four infant siblings, three brothers, Albin, Mervin and Orville Strand; and four sisters, Alice Robinson, Ethel Kriscolinus, Mrytle Hendricks and Opal Dahlin preceded her in death. She is survived by her two step-sons; Dwane (Judy) Horton of Plains, MT and Donald (Sandy) Horton of Sioux Falls, SD; three step-daughters, Josephine (Roy) Nelson of Las Vegas, NV, Betty (Merlin) of Sioux Falls, SD and Tobi Peterson of Bozeman, MT. Also surviving are 19 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
