She married Charles Edward Sievert on 26 May 1886 in Lake City, Calhoun, Iowa. May 21, 1902 - Carroll Herald - The news of the death of Mrs. C.E. Sievert last Friday night at Lake City was received in this city Saturday with profound regret. It was known that her health had not been the best for some time and less than a week previous to her death she went over to Lake City to visit her parents. She steadily grew worse until it became evident that her condition was critical and an operation was decided upon as a last hope of saving her life. Dora Lumpkin was born March 10, 1866, in Lake City, Iowa, and died May 16, 1902; aged 36 years, 2 months, 6 days; was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Lumpkin. She grew to womanhood in Lake City and passed most of her married life there. Was married to C.E. Sievert May 26, 1886. The union was one of the happiest. She met death bravely. In her last hours she talked calmly and seemed to think of those dear to her rather than herself. She expressed a desire to see absent ones and sent a simple and touching "good-bye" to them. The funeral was conducted by P.H. Lemon, pastor of the Woodlawn Ohurch of Christ, at 3 o'clock Sunday. Special trains from Carroll and Eagle Grove contained a large delegation of the O.R.C., B.R.T., and Eastern Star. The church was filled and many were turned away. Interment was made in Lake City cemetery. Sunday afternoon a special train was made up here and run to Lake City on account of the funeral of Mrs. Chas. Sievert, who died last Friday night. The ladies of the Eastern Star, of which Mrs. Sievert was a member, besides many friends of the deceased who wished to attend the services, were present, the total number from Carroll, including the train crew, being seventy-three. Another special from Eagle Grove conveyed about the same number of sorrowing friends. Such men as Chas. Sievert are held high in the esteem of the officers of the Sioux City division and Superintendent Hodges lost no time in granting the request for a special train, the crew volunteering their services. The funeral was one of the largest ever held in Lake City, which was held at Woodlawn Christian church, many being unable to gain admittance. The death of Mrs. Sievert was the termination of an ailment with which she had been afflicted for years, but not until quite recently was her condition considered alarming. The attending physician found that nothing but an operation would save her, for without it life could be prolonged only a few days at best. Mrs. Sievert finally submitted and the company's physician at Sioux City was sent for, who arrived on a special as fast as the wheels could run, the train averaging almost a mile a minute, including stops. Mrs. Sievert never rallied from the operation. In her death the community loses a good woman and the bereaved husband a loving wife.
