Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Anthon, with the Rev. Michael Harman officiating. Burial followed in the Oak Hill Cemetery under direction of Armstrong Funeral Home, Anthon. Mrs. Buettner was born October 28, 1898, at Avendorf anf Fehmarn, Germany, the daughter of Mathus and Anna (Von Rhein) Wendel. She immigrated to the United States around 1920. She resided near Hawarden, Iowa. She was employed as an assistant cook at Lutheran Hospital, Sioux City, then as a nanny near Ponca, Nebraska. She married John A. Buettner, December 24, 1923. They bought a farm in 1939 and moved near Anthon, and farmed until 1954, when they retired and moved into Anthon. He died on January 7, 1958. She became a resident of Colonial Manor Nursing Home in 1989. She was a charter member of Sharon Lutheran Church, rural Anthon, and a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Lutheran Women's Ministries League of Anthon. She enjoyed playing cards, checkers and crocheting. Survivors include two stepsons and their wives, Harold and Lucille Buettner and Lawrence and Maizel Buettner, all of Anthon; four grandchildren, Deanna Braun, Karen Peters and Marvin and Dale Buettner; twelve great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Jacob and Nick Wendel; and five sisters, Kahtarin Stanislaus, Anna Rahlf-Staak, Emma Funke, Freida and Amilie. Pallbearers were Richard Braun, Jim Peters, Marvin and Dale Buettner, Conrad Jensen and Don Krueger.
