Mrs. Thomas Cunningham died at her home in this township on Sunday afternoon, October 21st, 1900, after a lingering illness of that, dread disease, consumption. Dora Twamley was born in Ireland, near Dublin, in 1927. In 1850 she came to this country with her parents, and settled at Belvidere, Illinois, where five years later she was united in marriage to Mr. Thomas Cunningham, who survives her. In 1868, the young couple crossed The broad "Father of Waters" and settled in this township, where they have ever since resided, and where the deceased shared with her husband the hard lot of the pioneer. Mrs. Cunningham was a generous, kind hearted woman, and their's was the roof of hospitality that many a traveler has enjoyed. Besides her husband she leaves three children, Mrs. John Nelson of Prairiburg, Mrs. John Gilliam and D.W. Cunningham of Castle Grove, a brother, Mr. Hume Twamley, of Alexandria, South Dakota, and a sister,Mrs. Eliza Krueger, of this township, to mourn her death. The funeral was held at two o'clock on Tuesday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. Innes, of the Monticello Presbyterian church. The remains were laid to rest in the Prairie Hill cemetery, in sight of the spot That had been her home for more than forty years.
