Wernli, 34 Third Avenue SE, well known Le Mars resident for over thirty years, died at the Sacred Heart hospital Sunday following an illness of some months caused by complications from heart trouble. Dorothea Hahn was born at Whittemore, Iowa, January 1, 1885, where she grew up and was educated and entered the profession of school teacher. She was married to O. R. Wernli February 22, 1906, at Spencer and came to live in Le Mars in 1909. She leaves to mourn her death her husband and four sons, Kenneth, of Sioux City, Allen, of Le Mars, Donald, of Alton and Lieut. James Wernli at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. There are three grandchildren. She also leaves two brothers, O. F. Hahn, Whittemore, Iowa, E. W. Hahn, New Hampton, Iowa, and a sister, Mrs. R. Misbach. Her parents and one brother, Henry, preceded her in death. Mrs. Wernli was a member of the Presbyterian church and the Pythian Sisters and a member of several social clubs. She was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed many friendships, being of pleasing personality and gifted with discernment and judgment. The funeral will be held at the Mauer funeral home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Dr. Lilley of the First Presbyterian church in Sioux City will conduct the service. *** Alton Democrat, IA, Friday, November 14, 1941, p1, c8 Mrs. O. R. Wernli Dies At Le Mars Mr. and Mrs. Donald Wernli were called to Le Mars early Sunday morning by the news of the critical condition of the former's mother, Mrs. O. R. Wernli, at the Le Mars hospital. Mrs. Wernli died before her son could reach her bedside. Apparently much improved after a serious illness, Mrs. Wernli's death was caused by heart failure at a time when physicians and her family were most hopeful for her recovery. Mrs. Wernli was only 56 years old and is survived by her husband and four sons, Kenneth of Sioux City, Allen of Le Mars, Donald of Alton and Lt. James of Jefferson Barracks. Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Mauer funeral home with Dr. Theo. Lilley of the First Presbyterian church in Sioux City in charge.
