Contributed by #49659419 - Mrs. John Tjaden Dies Monday - Mrs. John Tjaden, who had resided longer in Wellsburg than any other person now living, died at her home here at 9 o'clock Monday forenoon. While she had been in frail health for a number of years and had been afflicted with cancer, her death was unexpected. She was up and about her home and was feeling as well as usual the day before her death. Last of Pioneer Family to Go - Mrs. Tjaden's maiden name was Dorcas Huisman. She was the last of the Huisman family who were among the pioneers of this community. There were six children from this pioneer family, three sons and three daughters. The sons were Harm, John and Jerry. The daughters were Mrs. Dick Kruger and Mrs. Walbaum. Dorcas, Mrs. Tjaden, was the youngest of the six. Born On Old Home Farm - Mrs. Tjaden was born on the Huisman farm north of Wellsburg Nov. 15, 1866, and would have been 84 years old had she lived until November 15th. She grew up on the home farm. She and John Tjaden were married in 1884. The couple started housekeeping in Wellsburg and made their home here continually. He died Dec. 23, 1941. Since the death of her husband Mrs. Tjaden continued to reside in the family home. She met with an accident four years ago which resulted in a broken hip. She partly recovered from that, and while she was able to be up and about her home she was unable to attend to all of the household duties and Mrs. Anna Penning had been with her to help look after her and the household duties. During her active life Mrs. Tjaden took a prominent part in the social and the church life of the town and community. Funeral Services Thursday - Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon. There will be a service at the home at 1:30 and later at the Second Christian Reformed church in Wellsburg. The services will be conducted by Rev. Joseph Vande Kieft, pastor of the First Christian Reformed church. Burial will be by the side of the husband in the Reformed church cemetery. Surviving are two sons and four daughters. The sons are Meint and Otta, Wellsburg. The daughters are Mrs. Ben Peters and Mrs. Albert Meyer, Wellsburg; Mrs. Shirley Dilly, Aplington, and Pearl, who is at home.
