Description	:	Dorinda Johnson was a daughter of Pleasant and Sarah (Huddleston) Johnson. She married John T. King about 1842 for which offense she was disowned by the Milford Hicksite Friends Meeting. She and her husband lived in Wabash County, where he was a farmer and weaver. They were the parents of nine children: Theodore M., Martha J., Sarah L., Charles H., Celinda, Ellen F., Emma F., Lora R. and Mary Virginia (Jennie). The Cambridge City (IN) Tribune, Thursday, August 15, 1907 "Mrs. Dorinda King died last Friday evening at the home of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Whiteley, after a long and severe illness. She was 84 years old. She was born in Union county and lived in Indiana all her life save a few years in Kansas. Seven children survive her. Funeral services will be held at Friends’ church at Dublin this morning at 10:30 by Rev. Swander." The Cambridge City (IN) Tribune, Thursday, August 22, 1907 "Dorinda, daughter of Pleasant and Sarah Johnson, was born in Union county, Indiana, July 28, 1923; departed this life, August 12, 1907, aged 84 years, 15 days.She was united in marriage to John King, November 18, 1841, and to this union was born nine children, two daughters and the father preceding her in death, the one daughter Celina, having died in infancy, and the other, Sarah Herbst, was laid to rest April 13, 1906. The seven children that survive her are Theodore M., of Paxton, Ill., Martha Painter, of Bradley, Kansas, Chas. H., of Rex Terrace, Mich., Ellen Elliott, of Chicago, Emma Rothermal, of Montpelier, Lora Whiteley, of Cambridge City, and Virginia King, of Idaho Springs, Colo. She was one of a family of ten children, five of whom are still living. They are Sylvester Johnson, of Irvington; Milo Johnson, of Brownsburg, Mary Herrington, of Indianapolis, Eliza Ellen Compton, of Brownsburg, and Ashley Johnson, of Bantry, N. Dak. Since February, 1875, she has had to fight the battles of life without a companion, but with great fortitude she took up the responsibility of doing for her family, and today they can rise up and call her blessed. Few words need be said of her life, for those that knew her would say she was a living epistle of truth and purity. The following verses were selected by the deceased as representating life as she would have lived it: O have a home beyond the river I've a home among the blessed, 'Where the wicked cease from troubling And the weary are at rest.' I am waiting at the station On the straight and narrow road, For the train that stops at Glory And the city of our God. Can you chide my anxious waiting When I've such a rest in view, And my locks are bleached to whiteness By the storms I've wandered through. Oh, I hear the joyful signal Of the coming of the train! So I take your hand with gladness Knowing we shall meet again."
