Beloved mother of two children, a daughter, Linda A. Duncan and her husband, George Duncan of Chico, California; and son, Denton F. Harlan and his wife, Barbara of Battle Ground, Washington. Beloved mother of two children, a daughter, Linda A. Duncan and her husband, George Duncan of Chico, California; and son, Denton F. Harlan and his wife, Barbara of Battle Ground, Washington. Beloved grandmother of David Harlan, Amber Harlan Granmo and Joy Ann Jarred. Great-grandmother of Devon, Mae, Cole, Ash and Corey. A librarian, Doris is survived by many others whom as children were mentored by her through the children's reading program offered by the Fort Vancouver Regional Library System at the Battle Ground branch in Battle Ground, Washington. She retired from the library system in 1980 after more than 20 years of dedicated service. This was a dream job for her that she always loved. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis R. Harlan, in 1966; and more recently her brother, Don Joy, in 2008; and two nephews, Jimmy and Robert "Bob" Joy. Viewing was at Layne's Funeral Home, 16 N.E. Clark Avenue, Battle Ground, Washington on Wednesday, May 25, 2016. Funeral Services were held at Layne's Funeral Home on Thursday, May 26, 2016 with interment following in Wilson Bridge Cemetery, Vancouver, Washington. After the committal at the cemetery, there was a reception at Manor Evangelical Church Fellowship Hall in Manor, Washington, where she had been the oldest living member. Doris was an avid reader, especially of the Bible, and a crossword puzzle enthusiast. She loved the color blue and she loved cats; so people are encouraged to wear blue or a shirt with cats on it to the service. Published in The Columbian, Vancouver, Washington on May 22, 2016
