Read More	* IN LOVING MEMORY OF * Doris (Clay) Walker was born on Tuesday; August 27, 1918 in Gilman; Marshall County, Iowa. She was the daughter of: Leslie L. and Marie (Sawyer) Clay. Doris graduated with the class of 1935 at Gilman High School. Following her education she worked in restaurants and family homes. In 1938 Doris married Denver Walker; the family lived in Gilman and operated the Walker Super Value store until 1970. A year later the couple moved to Wadena; Fayette County, Iowa. They also owned and operated the Wadena General Store. They retired in 1979 and moved to Grinnell; Poweshiek County, Iowa. While living in Gilman, Iowa, Doris was a member of the Gilman United Methodist Church and was active in the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Volga United Methodist Church when living in Wadena, Iowa and was an Avon representative. While living in Grinnell, Iowa, she was a member of the United Methodist church and the Grinnell Senior Citizens. After an illness in 2005 she moved to the Villa Del Sol in Marshalltown; Marshall County, Iowa. Doris always made time for her family and friends and had a cup of coffee ready, awaiting their arrival. She liked to sew and didn't like to cook, but was good at both. In her later years she made quilts and wrote poetry. She enjoyed music and could sing along to many hymns and "Golden Oldies". Doris's love and caring for other people lives in the hearts of those many friends and family she leaves behind. Doris (Clay) Walker, age: 93, passed away on Sunday; November 20, 2011 at the Villa Del Sol under the care of their staff, her family and Iowa River Hospice. Those left to mourn her passing are: Her children and their spouses: Charlene (John) Beisner of Boulder Creek; Santa Cruz County, California, Deniece (Larry) Oster of Big Spring; Howard County, Texas and James Walker of Marshalltown, Iowa. Her ten grandchildren and her seven great-grandchildren. Her sister: Donna Lawrence and Jean Simpson of Marshalltown and her brothers: Charles Clay of Corydon; Wayne County, Iowa, Richard Clay of Cedar Rapids; Linn County, Iowa and Leslie "Fritz" Clay of Gilman, Iowa. Doris was preceded in death by her husband: Denver and her parents. May they rest in peace. May God bless her memory and give strength to those that mourn. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday; November 23, 2011 at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin at: 10:30 a.m. also on Wednesday; November 23, 2011 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Final destination will be at the Prairie View Cemetery in Gilman, Iowa.
