She was born in rural Polk county to Foster and Iva (Colby) Scott. She attended country school and graduated from Polk High School. She then went on to Concordia University where she received her bachelor's degree in elementary education. Her first teaching job was at a country school north of Columbus. On May 12, 1962 Doris was united in marriage to Robert John Cermak at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. To this union, three children were born. In 1963 they moved to the Shelby area. Over the years Doris taught in Osceola, 20 plus years in Gresham and the last 5 years at Centennial as an elementary school teacher. She enjoyed needlework, crocheting, playing cards and crossword puzzles. She was a member of Shelby Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Ann's Guild, Shelby Legion Auxiliary, Polk County Election Board and Polk County Senior Advisory Board. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Russell, three sisters Marvelle Howe, Margie Cerny, and Thelma Lohse; three brothers George Scott, Ray Scott and Billy Scott; niece Sharon Shoup; and nephews Jim LeSuer and Richard Church.
