Doris Ilene Roovaart, daughter of Andrew and Irene(Baker)Carter was born on July 13, 1937 in Elmer, Missouri. She attended Fort Madison High School. Read More	Doris Roovaart, 74 of rural Barnes City passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012 at the Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. Doris Ilene Roovaart, daughter of Andrew and Irene(Baker)Carter was born on July 13, 1937 in Elmer, Missouri. She attended Fort Madison High School. Doris left school early to help support her family, working at Reading Room Restaurant in Fort Madison. She married Kenneth Holtkamp on September 25, 1954. They later divorced. Doris worked at the Iowa Ammunition Plant in Middletown during the Vietnam War. After the war, she worked for Shaeffer Pen Company in Fort Madison. On September 1, 1979, Doris was united in marriage to Lyle Roovaart in New Sharon. Doris had a porcelain doll shop at her home where she made doll clothing, repaired dolls and held doll making classes. She enjoyed painting pictures, crocheting, making porcelain dolls, sewing, cooking, yard sales, watching red birds and above all spending time with her family. Doris was a member of the New Sharon Friends Church, the Garden Club, the Red Hat Ladies and the Sunny Circle Club. Her memory is honored by her husband, Lyle Roovaart of rural Barnes City; her children, Deborah(Don)Horton of Fort Madison, Donna Knox of Fort Madison, Marvin Roovaart of Ginnell, Lila(Pat)Fusaro of Des Moines, Steve(Mariene)Holtkamp of Irving, Texas, Stanley(Barbara)Holtkamp of Irving, Texas and Scott Holtkamp of Decatur, Texas; 31 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; one sister, Charlene Russell of Irving Texas; four brothers, Richard Carter of Texas, Roger Carter of California, Tim(Kathy)of Camp Point, IL and Mark Carter of California; several nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Irene Carter; her first husband Kenneth Holtkamp; a daughter, Rebecca Anne Holtkamp and 10 siblings, Omar, Gene, Glenn, Don F. James, Velma, Merle Dean, Mary, Myrna and Daniel and a daughter-in-law, Cindy Roovaart. Funeral services will begin at 1 pm Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at the Newa Sharon Friends Church. Visitation will begin after 11 am Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New sharon with the family present from 5-7 pm. Interment will be held in the Union Mills Cemetery at Union Mills. Memorials may be made to the New Sharon Historical Society or the New Sharon Friends Church.
