Description	:	February 9, 1924 ~ September 15, 2017 Doris was born in Callaway, Nebraska, where her parents owned a wheat farm. Through the 8th grade, she attended Brown Valley, one room school two miles from her home. Beginning at age 14, she drove herself to Callaway for high school. Upon graduation, she attended Carney State Teacher's College for secretarial skills; this enabled her to obtain a job with the international Harvester Company's billing department. Through the 8th grade, she attended Brown Valley, one room school two miles from her home. Beginning at age 14, she drove herself to Callaway for high school. Upon graduation, she attended Carney State Teacher's College for secretarial skills; this enabled her to obtain a job with the international Harvester Company's billing department. Doris met her husband, Jim Crowder, at a U.S.O. dance; upon being married in Grand Island, Nebraska, in 1945, the couple moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where Jim was stationed in the military. A year later they put down their permanent roots in Jim's home town of Vancouver, Washington. There, their three children, Sharon, Gail, and Cyndy were born. Doris worked part time with the state of Washington, and upon her retirement, had become the longest working Civil Servant examiner in Washington. Doris, an extraordinary seamstress, made all of her children's clothes, including all three of her daughter's wedding dresses. Doris enjoyed gardening and flower arranging, and, with her flowers arrangements, was the recipient of numerous Firsts and Best In Shows at the yearly Clark County fairs. She also enjoyed playing bridge, and in later years became an avid Dominos player. Doris is survived by her beloved husband, Jim; her three children: Sharon (Bill) Martin, Gail Prager, and Cyndy (Chuck) Hughes; her granddaughters, Wendy Martin and Jaimie (Matthew) Mohan; and her great-grandsons, Liam and Sullivan Mohan. This past August, Doris and Jim celebrated 72 years of marriage. Funeral service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Wed., Sept. 20th at 3p.m. Published in The Columbian on Sept. 19, 2017
