Born June 7, 1925 in Aurora, Nebraska, she was the daughter of William A. and Martha (Smith) Kirkpatrick. She grew up in Aurora, where she went to school until the 9th grade, then having quit school in order to take care of her dying mother. Doris was united in marriage to George E. Born June 7, 1925 in Aurora, Nebraska, she was the daughter of William A. and Martha (Smith) Kirkpatrick. She grew up in Aurora, where she went to school until the 9th grade, then having quit school in order to take care of her dying mother. Doris was united in marriage to George E. Preston on December 16, 1948 in Aurora. They raised their three children there. George passed away on October 2, 1974 and Doris continued to lived in Aurora until 1982. She then moved to Lincoln and lived on her own until 1997 when, after a fall, she moved in with her daughter Georgene. She stayed with Georgene until sometime in 2000 and, in July of 2000, she moved in with her daughter Elsie until the time of her death. Doris loved word puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and bingo. Doris enjoyed driving in the country and, when she was feeling well, she would always say, Lets take a ride. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her three sisters, Maude (Kirkpatrick) Zornes, Mary (Kirkpatrick) Lantzer, and Ollie Kirkpatrick; and two brothers, William A. and Robert G. Kirkpatrick. Doris was survived by those left to cherish her memory, including her son, Leland Lee Preston (and his wife Bonnie); two daughters, Elsie (Kirkpatrick) Loseke (and her husband Larry) and Virginia Georgene (Kirkpatrick) Nunn (and her husband Dick); two granddaughters, Kaete Preston and Molly Dodson; step-grandson, Steve Nunn; step great-grandchildren, Nicole, Spencer, and Kandra Nunn; brother, James Kirkpatrick (and his wife Jacque); and two sisters, Rosie (Kirkpatrick) Doell and Gertrude (Kirkpatrick) Birkinbine. Visitation was on Thursday at the Higby Mortuary in Aurora. Funeral Services were Friday at the Assembly of God Church in Aurora. The Reverend Jerry Breese officiated. Interment followed in the Aurora Cemetery.
