She was born in Huntington County to Claude and Rosa Belle (Harris) Shaw on April 3, 1925. She married Gustin E. Oswalt on December 24, 1943 in Hartford City, Indiana, he passed on June 9, 1961. She then married Harold McFarren on November 2, 1975, in Poneto, Indiana, he passed on January 23, 2001. McFarren, age 87, passed away at 12:20 pm Monday, September 3, 2012 surrounded by her family. She was born in Huntington County to Claude and Rosa Belle (Harris) Shaw on April 3, 1925. She married Gustin E. Oswalt on December 24, 1943 in Hartford City, Indiana, he passed on June 9, 1961. She then married Harold McFarren on November 2, 1975, in Poneto, Indiana, he passed on January 23, 2001. She worked with her husband Gustin at their mill in Poneto, the Oswalt Grain & Milling Company. She then worked at the CTS Company in Berne, Indiana, for 24 years before retiring. She was a 1944 graduate of the Liberty Center High School, and an active member of the Poneto United Methodist Church for 67 years. She was a woman of great strength and determination. She enjoyed reading, doing puzzles and crocheting. Her faith in God and great love for her family was most important in her life. Surviving is one son, Timothy Oswalt of Bluffton; four daughters, Rose (Daniel) Anderson, Carolyn (Thomas) Mechling, Marolyn (Calvin) Roth and Vickie (Larry) Boots, all of Bluffton; one step-daughter, Sharon (Richard) Abbott of Bluffton; one step-son, Jack McFarren of Bluffton; one half-sister, Ellen Buckland of Liberty Center; 20 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death along with her parents is her step-mother, Blanche (Jackson) Mann; two infant children, Gustin and Claude Oswalt; a brother, Roger Shaw; a Sister, Celia Jane Moon; three step-brothers, Mark, Leon "Shorty",and William Mann; one step-sister, Norma Jean Culley; and one great-grandson. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel, in Bluffton, conducted by her minister, Rev. Roy Neval, The Family will receive friends from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at the Stahl Cemetery, Rieffsburg. Memorials may be given to the Poneto United Methodist Church or Family LifeCare of Berne, IN.
