Description	:	Doris Crane, 96, died Monday, October 6, 2014 at Sanford Centennial Hospice Cottage. Doris Lucille Crane was born March 11, 1918, in Lucas, SD to William and Grace Eastlund. Doris attended Hall school, a rural one room school and graduated from Lucas High School. She attended Springfield Normal College for one year, then began her long career as a teacher, working for two years in a one room rural school in Gregory county. Read More	Doris Crane, 96, died Monday, October 6, 2014 at Sanford Centennial Hospice Cottage. Doris Lucille Crane was born March 11, 1918, in Lucas, SD to William and Grace Eastlund. Doris attended Hall school, a rural one room school and graduated from Lucas High School. She attended Springfield Normal College for one year, then began her long career as a teacher, working for two years in a one room rural school in Gregory county. She left to find adventure in California and worked at secretarial and bookkeeping jobs during WWII. In California she met her husband, Joseph F. Crane, who was in the Army. While Joe was in the army, they lived in Salt Lake City, UT and Missuoula, MT. After the war, they moved to Joe's hometown of Cedar Rapids, IA to make their home. In 1947 their daughter Joann was born. Doris returned to South Dakota. Her retirement years were spent in Sioux Falls. Doris is survived by her daughter Joann and Joann's husband, George Buehler of Pocatello, ID. She has two grandchildren, Ellen Grace Leith of Pocatello, ID and Matthew Brenton Johnson and his wife Lori of Cheney, WA. Great grandchildren are Rigel and Lian, sons of Ellen, and Josh and Jessica, children of Matthew. She is also survived by her sisters: Merla Severson of Sioux Falls, SD, Eileen Artus of Rapid City, SD, and Viola Ripperger of Cincinatti, OH.
