Description	:	Mrs. Doris Lamm Baxley, 93, of Rockingham passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016 in Wilson. Services will be conducted graveside 11:00 am Monday, May 9th at Richmond Memorial Park with Rev. Allison Farrah officiating. Doris is survived by a son, Dr. Lee Baxley of Los Angeles, CA and two sister in laws, Miriam Lamm of Kenly and Marilyn Webb of Charlotte. She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty four years, Edward Fairley Baxley; two brothers, Etheridge Lamm and Gerald Lamm; and three sisters, Margie Mercer, Brenda Lamm, and Verna Lee Mattox. Doris is survived by a son, Dr. Lee Baxley of Los Angeles, CA and two sister in laws, Miriam Lamm of Kenly and Marilyn Webb of Charlotte. She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty four years, Edward Fairley Baxley; two brothers, Etheridge Lamm and Gerald Lamm; and three sisters, Margie Mercer, Brenda Lamm, and Verna Lee Mattox. Doris graduated from East Carolina Teachers College in 1943 with a degree in mathematics and science. She has been a member of Delta Kappa Gamma for fifty five years. She taught at Granger High School in Kinston from 1942 to 1948, Rockingham High School from 1948 to 1968, and retired from Richmond Community College. Doris was very active in the Rockingham community and First United Methodist Church. She was the first woman to serve on the Board of Trustees for the church and was honored with an award in 2001 for her endless service. Doris’ love of nature led her to be the first chair of the Campus Beautification Committee at Richmond Community College. The Sandhill Area Development Association presented her with the Progressive Community Leadership Award in 1974 for her service to the community. She was a member of the Richmond Memorial Hospital Guild for many years.
