Doris Laverne Knee, daughter of Joseph [Edwin] Porter and Goldie Logue Porter, was born in Cumberland, on November 17, 1920, and passed away in Omaha, Neb., on February 26, 1977, at the age of 56 years, 3 months, and 9 days. . She graduated from Grant High School in 1939 and then attended Cedar Falls State Teacher's College. On August 9, 1940, she was united in marriage to Glen Sterns Knee. . To this union one son and two daughters were born, Dennis Allan of Scotia, Nebraska, Carolyn Ruth (Mrs. Raymond Plowman) of Gretna, Neb., and Diane Laureen of Omaha. . Mrs. Knee taught rural schools near Carbon and Cumberland, Iowa. The family moved to Omaha in 1960. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and sewing. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in 1936. Her courageous spirit and love for her Lord were an encouragement to everyone who knew her during her long illness. . Survivors are her husband, Glen; one son, Dennis and wife Carolyn; two daughters, Carolyn and husband Raymond Plowman and Diane; five grandchildren, Denise, Janet, and Daniel Knee and Bryan and Jeffery Plowman; her father, Joseph Porter of Omaha; one brother, Ross Porter, of Ludlow, Missouri; and seven sisters, Lois Porter, Jeanne Peterson, Janelle Swafford, and Sharon Ainsworth, all of Omaha. Ramona Harris of Adair, Shirley Cranston of Arvada, Colorado, and Charlotte Slaby of Murdock, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her mother. . END. . In September of 1855, Doris' great grandparents, Edward Porter and Clarissa Richardson Powell, migrated by covered wagon from Stark County, Illinois, and settled in Cass County, Iowa. The village of Reno was platted in 1876 and the plat was recorded on August 24, 1877, by Edward Porter.
