Thomas, 90, of the Lebanon community west of Keosauqua, died at 5:20 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at Van Buren County Hospital, Keosauqua. She was born Nov. 13, 1919, in Tama County to Ralph R. and Mary Josephine Oliver DeVault. She graduated from Selma High School in 1938 and married Stuart F. Thomas June 22, 1941, at the bride’s parents’ home near Selma; Rev. Putnam officiating. Doris and Stuart were members of Eldon Christian Church. They farmed in Wapello and Van Buren counties and moved to their farm north of Lebanon in 1948. Doris worked at Universal Producing Co., Fairfield, was a cook at Van Buren County Home for 10 years and worked at Douds Café for Madeline McLeland for several years. She was a member of Twin City Chapter No. 258, Order of Eastern Star, Douds, Valley Club, Town and Country Garden Club and Lebanon United Methodist Women. She attended the Lebanon United Methodist Church. She had resided at Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren in Keosauqua for 11 months. Surviving are two sons, Ivan Thomas of Douds and Melvin Thomas (Judy) of Keosauqua; a daughter, Shirley Tedrow (Wayne) of Cantril; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen DeVault of Washington, Iowa; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, who died Nov. 2, 2009, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ivan H. DeVault; a sister, Alice Stackhouse, and husband, Les; and a nephew, Clay Stackhouse. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday Oct. 2, at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua with Rev. Jerry Caughron and Rev. Ann Donat officiating. Burial will be in Fiedler Cemetery southwest of Eldon. Visitation will open at 4 p.m. today at the funeral home with family present 5:30-7 p.m. Memorials to Fiedler Cemetery or Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 13488 172nd St., Douds, Iowa 52551.
