She was born Sept. 7, 1925 in Norwich, England to Walter and Doris Gould. She was raised in England, graduating from school at the age of 14. She then went to work to help support her family. Read More	The County Chronicle Omak, WA Wednesday, May 22, 2013 Obituary Doris M. Jones Doris M. Jones, 87, of Okanogan, Wash., passed away on May 15, 2013. She was born Sept. 7, 1925 in Norwich, England to Walter and Doris Gould. She was raised in England, graduating from school at the age of 14. She then went to work to help support her family. She worked as a telephone operator and also in a shoe factory. As a young person, Doris experienced WWII firsthand, as there were air raids constantly. She met and married James H. Sharp, a Staff Sergeant with the 93rd bombardment group. Doris was with the 1st group of wives that were sent to the U.S.A. on a troop ship. James and Doris had a daughter, Bonnie L. Sharp. After they divorced, Doris met and married Lewis R. Jones in Cheyenne,Wyo. They left Wyoming after the war and headed for the Jones Ranch at Pine Creek. Louie bought a logging truck, and they moved to Okanogan. They bought land, built a house, and lived there for 60 years. Doris worked as an apple packer and then went to work at Rawson's Dept. Store. She worked there for over 30 years. Most customers remember her for her English accent. Doris was active in the Okanogan Chamber of Commerce and was instrumental in starting Bunnyrama, Harvest Fest, keeping the courthouse in Okanogan, and spearheaded putting the clocks in the courthouse tower. Doris is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Rawson and her husband, Richard Rawson; three grandchildren, Matthew Rawson (Monica), Mark Rawson (Anna), and Maureen Seljestad (Ben); seven great-grandchildren, Emily, Nathan, Mylie, Piper, Nola, Murphy and Sullivan; brother, John Gould of Oliver B.C.; sister, Freda Howard of Tacoma, Wash., step-brother, David Cornwell of Auckland, New Zealand. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis R. Jones; three infant children; her parents; and her brother, Walter Gould. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, May 20, at the Okanogan cemetery. A potluck will follow at Mark and Anna's home on Cemetery Road at VinMar Lane, Okanogan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Okanogan County Historical Museum or the charity of your choice. Precht-Harrison-Nearents Chapel is caring for the arrangements.
