(Hoffman) Maher, 86 March 24, 1932 ~ July 15, 2018 Doris was born March 24, 1932 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Alva and Dorothy (Denkinger) Hoffman. She graduated from Bishop Heelan High School, Sioux City, Iowa in 1950. At the age of 18 she went to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Sioux City, IA, where she worked for 27 years and was promoted to Supervisor of Operators. Doris married Philip Maher on December 1, 1956 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City, NE. They were blessed with three children and were married for 32 years before Philip passed away on October 25, 1988. Doris also worked at Shopko for 23 years, where she managed the jewelry department. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed spending time with her family, was an active bridge player and enjoyed going out and playing cards on Fridays with "The Friday Bunch". She also enjoyed crocheting, sewing, cooking, baking, and shopping for Christmas. Doris was an avid reader, instilling a love of reading in her family. She also loved her Schipperke dogs, Misty and Mandy. Doris M. (Hoffman) Maher, 86, of South Sioux City, NE passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at her residence. Survivors include her children, Catherine (Mark) Greenwald of Omaha, NE, Susie Joens of Sioux City, IA and Steve Maher of South Sioux City, NE; 7 grandchildren, Jeff Greenwald, Kim (Brad) Van Winkle, Kristin (Mark) John, Tyler Greenwald, and Philip, Rachel and Kevin Joens; 5 great-grandchildren, Jackson, Anabelle, Harrison and Coralyn Mae Van Winkle and Mason John. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alva and Dorothy Hoffman; and her husband, Philip Maher. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, July 20, 2018 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City, NE. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., with the family present at 5:00 P.M. and the rosary recited by the Catholic Daughters at 6:30 P.M. on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE.
