Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, at Pursel Davis Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Doris Mabel Slingluff, the daughter of Clyde and Verna Frantz Slingluff, was born February 20, 1919 near Montour, IA, in Tama County. She was raised on a farm south of Montour attending rural school in Tama County and graduating from Gilman High School in 1937. Upon graduation, Doris attended Mercidian School of Nursing at St. Thomas Hospital in Marshalltown, IA. During World War II, she served her country as an Ensign in the Navy Nurse Corp at St. Alban's Naval Hospital in New York City. Doris continued her nursing career by working in the office of Dr. Knight. After her children were grown she worked at Marshalltown Manor Nursing Home as Director of Nurses. On October 23, 1947 Doris and Harmon Anderson were married at the Friends Church in Marshalltown, IA. They were the parents of two daughters, Linda and Carma. Putting aside her nursing career when her daughters were born, Doris devoted her time to her children and farm life. Harmon and Doris lived on several farms in the Gilman and Laurel area, retiring to their home in Laurel, and in 2006 moving to Midlothian, VA, Doris was a member of the Gilman Community Church, the Gilman American Legion Auxiliary, the Marshalltown Chapter of the Lady Elks, and the Marshalltown Chapter of Le Femmes. She enjoyed cooking, reading, fishing, and spending time with her family. She will be missed by daughters Linda (Ron) Mayer of Midlothian, VA and Carma (Rex) Armstrong of Indianola, IA, grandchildren Jason (Cindy) Henle of Milo, IA, Eric (Anne) Mayer of Mechanicsville, VA, Scott Armstrong of Des Moines, IA, Laurie Mayer of Richmond VA, and Lindsay (Ryan) Daniels of Pittsboro, NC, and great grandchildren, Rachael, Jessica, Abbigail, and Brett Henle. Other survivors include her brother Dale Slingluff, of Toledo, IA, sister-in-law Francis Anderson of Gilman, IA and brother-in-law Duane Muckler of Marshalltown, IA, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. In eternal life, Doris joins her husband Harmon of 61 years, parents, sister Marjorie, brother Max, sisters-in-law Helen Slingluff, Dolores Muckler, Dorothy Doyle, Ruth Ann Anderson, and Hazel Nicholl, and brothers-in-law Raymond Nicholl, Richard Doyle, Orville Anderson, and Joel Anderson.
