A prayer service was held at the funeral chapel Tuesday at 7 p.m. Doris was born to Clarence and Bessie (Eikanas) Craig Dec. 24, 1926, in Aberdeen. She graduated from Groton High School and attended Northern State College, where she earned a teaching certificate. She taught in a country school located a mile south of their farm near Groton. Later, she also worked in the Groton school lunch program. On June 26, 1948, Doris was united in marriage to Robert Zimney. To this union, four children were born. They lived in Groton all of their lives except for a brief time when the family moved to Spokane, Wash. In 1963, Doris began a long fight with Multiple Sclerosis that spanned over 40 years. Doris spent many years confined to a wheelchair and bed rest, but, kept her mind in tip-top shape. She had an avid passion for politics and was famous for her letters to the editor. She became a real sports fan and loved to watch tennis. Crocheting, knitting and a good crossword puzzle kept her mind sharp day after day. She served as a patient representative while at Bethesda and was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Groton. Grateful to have shared her life are her three sons: Barry (Maureen) of Rapid City, Bob (Nichole) of Owasso, Okla., Rick (Carol) of Omaha, Neb.; one daughter, Sherry (Dave) Arneson of Aberdeen; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dayle Craig of Aberdeen and Doug (Brenda) Craig of Claremont; two sisters, Donna Bahr of Groton and Darlene (Danny) Biggs of Great Bend, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and great-granddaughter. A memorial has been established to the National MS Society-Dakota Chapter, 3800 W. Technology Center, Sioux Falls, SD 57106.
