She was the first in her family to go to college. Read More	Passed away peacefully from natural causes on December 23, 2020. She was born on May 16, 1930 in Aberdeen, WA to George and Stella (Huffman) Webber. She grew up in Moclips, WA, overlooking the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Doris graduated from Moclips High School in 1948. She was Valedictorian and earned a scholarship to Washington State University. She was the first in her family to go to college. She earned her degree in Education, joined Delta Gamma sorority, where she became Chapter President, and met her future husband, Jim (James Laurence) Howell. Jim and Doris married in 1952. Doris taught in Colfax, WA before they left for the military. They started their family and settled in Jim's hometown of St. John, WA where they lived for 65+ years. Doris opened "The Carpet Shop" in the 1970's and enjoyed helping her friends with their design needs. Doris was a devoted wife and mother who cared deeply for her family and friends. She was a researcher, had a competitive spirit, and always offered level-headed advice. She was dedicated to helping her children, the school, and the community of St. John by participating in PTA, fundraising events, or whatever was needed in the community. She loved her family unconditionally and made it a point to stay current in her kids and grandkids lives. Doris never missed one of her kids or grandkids events, from spelling bees to basketball games, she could always be found in the stands. Doris was an avid WSU Cougar fan. She and Jim made frequent trips to Pullman to watch football and basketball games, and especially enjoyed the times accompanied by their dear college friends. Doris loved to travel, with her favorite trip being "home to the Coast" to visit her parents and friends in Washington's North Beach area and Westport. Doris is predeceased by her parents and husband. She is survived by her sons Jim (Susan), Jeff (Kristy), her daughter Jo (Scott Hennessey), grandchildren Aaron Howell, Shawn Hennessey Loewen (Ben), Kelly Hennessey, Hillary Howell, and Meghan Howell. Our family is grateful for the support the St. John community has bestowed on our parents and family throughout the years. There are many "angels" who stepped in to help Doris extend her time in St. John for as long as possible, which was her wish. We want to thank the staff of South Hill Village who treated our mom like family. She and "Honey", her kitty, were very fond of all of you!
