She was born on September 5, 1937, in Luray and was a daughter of the late Franklin William Atwood and Frances Bradley Atwood. Doris retired in 2007 from Page County Public Schools, where she worked as a bus driver for 39 years. She was affiliated with church her whole life, having attended numerous local churches. Burke and wife Sandra Burke, all of Luray, and Tim W. Burke and wife Margaret Burke of Rileyville; a sister, Lois J. Kilby of Fairfax; a brother, Forest N. Atwood of Luray; six grandchildren, Bradley Austen Burke and wife Emily Burke, Heidi Danielle Burke and companion James Hundley, Benjamin Garrett Burke, Casey Reanne Austin and husband Tyler Austin, Steven Alden Burke, and Nathaniel Caleb Burke and wife Sara Carah; four great-grandchildren, Grayson Burke, Caroline Austin, Lilly Hundley and Versie Hundley. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Bradley Atwood; and a sister, Roberta Jenkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1, at the Lighthouse Gospel Church by her brother, Elder Forest Atwood, with visitation one hour prior to the service, from 1-2 p.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Luray. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, Tenn. 38101-9929.
