Doris Marlene Hanson, 72 years of age, of rural Loomis, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2015 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. She battled and survived Breast Cancer twice but He called her home after a brief battle with Uterine Cancer. Doris was born February 3, 1943 in Holdrege, the third of five children born to Harold and Elvera (Jacobson) Larson. She received her primary education from District #83 Snowball Country school, later attending Ragan and Mascot schools and graduating 8th grade from the R-4 Country school. She graduated from Elm Creek High School with the class of 1961. She then pursued higher education and received her Cosmetology License in 1963. On February 19, 1965, she was united in marriage to Sherrod Hanson at Holcomb Evangelical Free Church and to this union two sons were born: Darwin and Darren. Doris worked as a hair dresser throughout her life. She also worked as a Nurses Aid at Christian Homes, Loomis High School as a cook and in the laundry at Holdrege Memorial Homes. Most recently, Doris was in charge of the Beauty Shop at the Chrisoma West Assisted Living in Holdrege. She loved to cook and bake. Her greatest joy was watching her boys play sports and more recently, her grandchildren’s activities. Doris was a member of the Holcomb Evangelical Free Church, serving as a past Sunday school teacher and Superintendent of the Sunday school. She was a member of the White Cross, the Adult Sunday School and the Gideon’s International Auxiliary, previously serving as an Officer of the Holdrege Camp. Her family will cherish the many memories, especially her love for cooking and baking and her contagious smile. She was preceded in death by her parents; mother and father-in-law, Earl and Tillie Hanson; a son, in infancy; brothers-in-law: Eldon Swindell, Lawrence “Bob” Hanson and his wife Elva, Wilmer Hanson and his wife Ruth, Roger Hanson and his wife Isla, Earl “Junior” Hanson and Harry Hollinger and sisters-in-law: Helen Hanson in infancy, Evelyn Almquist and her husband Dean and Dorothy Novak and her husband Bob. She leaves to celebrate her life; her husband, Sherrod Hanson of rural Loomis; sons, Darwin Hanson of Yulee, Florida and Darren Hanson and his wife Kelly of Lexington, Nebraska; three grandchildren: Clarissa, Courtney and Andrew Hanson; sisters: Marilyn Swindell of Omaha, Nebraska, Myrtle Simmerman and her husband Dick of Overton, Nebraska and Carol Reeves and her husband Rock of Red Wing, Minnesota; brother: Ron Larson and his wife Arlys of Gothenburg, Nebraska; sisters-in-law: Doris Hollinger of Papillion, Nebraska, Gladys Cole and her husband Gerald of Curtis, Nebraska and Mary Hanson of Holdrege along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorial Book Signing was held on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege. A memorial has been established in Doris’ honor and kindly suggested to the Chapel at Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege.
