Description	:	Doris Kennedy, 81, Mayetta, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at a Topeka hospital. Mrs. Kennedy taught school many years at the Avoca and Prairie View schools, both in Jackson County, and she later was a teacher’s aide at Holton Schools. She was born Aug. 29, 1917, in the Bucks Grove community south of Soldier, the daughter of Cullum and Mabel Shove McKinsey. Mrs. Kennedy taught school many years at the Avoca and Prairie View schools, both in Jackson County, and she later was a teacher’s aide at Holton Schools. She was born Aug. 29, 1917, in the Bucks Grove community south of Soldier, the daughter of Cullum and Mabel Shove McKinsey. She graduated from Soldier High School in 1936, and she took teachers training at Kansas State University. Mrs. Kennedy was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, the Altar Society and the Mary Ann Circle, both at the church, and Pleasant Valley Neighbors, She was a charter member of East Grant Club in Jackson County and a past superintendent of the Jackson County 4-H Fair. She was also a community leader for the Pleasant Valley Rustlers 4-H Club and a Gray Lady for the American Red Cross. She was married to Bernard P. Kennedy on April 19, 1941, at Holton. He survives. Other survivors include two sons, Charles Kennedy, Holton, and Paul Kennedy, Mayetta; three daughters, Margo Gambill and Mary Gonzales, both of Kansas City, Kansas, and Jane Proctor, Topeka; a sister, Mary Louise Ziegler, Fallbrook, California; 20 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Kennedy was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Zachary Proctor. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Dominic Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery west of Holton. Mrs. Kennedy will lie in state today at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, where a rosary recited at 6:30 p.m. will be followed by visitation.
