Description	:	Mrs. Doris Nelson Adams, 93, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2016. A graveside service will be held on Friday at 2 PM in Pinewood Memorial Park with the Rev. Ken Cash officiating. A native and lifelong resident of Pitt County, Mrs. Adams was a 1941 graduate of Greenville High School. She worked for Best Jewelry Company for 10 years before working as an administrative assistant for Durham Life Insurance Company for 15 years, retiring in 1986. She married her late husband, James Howard Adams, in 1949 and they made their home and raised their family in Greenville. She was a charter... Read More	Mrs. Doris Nelson Adams, 93, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2016. A graveside service will be held on Friday at 2 PM in Pinewood Memorial Park with the Rev. Ken Cash officiating. A native and lifelong resident of Pitt County, Mrs. Adams was a 1941 graduate of Greenville High School. She worked for Best Jewelry Company for 10 years before working as an administrative assistant for Durham Life Insurance Company for 15 years, retiring in 1986. She married her late husband, James Howard Adams, in 1949 and they made their home and raised their family in Greenville. She was a charter member of Trinity Free Will Baptist Church where she enjoyed helping in the nursery and Women’s Auxiliary. In addition, she was active in the Withla Council #42 Degree of Pocahontas where she had achieved over 1000 service hours. Mrs. Adams will be fondly remembered as a woman of strong faith, friendly, outgoing, and independent. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild and loved gathering with her family. She will be greatly missed by the many who knew and loved her. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Reba Manning Nelson, 4 brothers and 1 sister. She is survived by: daughter, Dawn A. Newton of Winterville; sons, James Howard “Jim” Adams, Jr., and wife, Carmen, of Winterville; Nelson Dean Adams and wife, Jackie, of Greenville; grandchildren, Michelle Adams and fiancé, Holt W. Alcon of Greensboro, David N. Adams and wife, Mallory, of Winterville, Rosa Adams of Winterville; great-grandchild, Adrienne Adams of Winterville; nephews, Allan Ray Forrest of Greenville, Bobby Forrest of Greensboro, and David Nelson of Ackworth, GA; niece, Patti Nelson Williams of Charlotte; and numerous other nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 PM at Trinity Free Will Baptist Church. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and CNAs at Golden Living Center of Greenville for their degree of special care.
