Houseman Funeral Home in Clear Lake, SD is entrusted with the arrangements. Doris Rose (Swanz) Jaeger was born in Geddes, South Dakota on July 31, 1928 to parents Isadore and Rose (Kubal) Swanz. She graduated from Geddes High School and went to work for Bursik Grocery in Geddes. Doris was united in marriage to Alphonse Francis Jaeger on January 15, 1949 and together they were blessed with two sons: Dennis and Gary in which they raised on the family farm near Strandburg, SD. Alphonse died on December 19, 1998 after nearly 50 years of marriage. Doris enjoyed gardening and canning her bounty along with giving her produce to friends and family. Raising and tending to her chickens brought her years of enjoyment. Most near and dear to Doris was her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for being a very generous woman who was highly active. She loved children and veterans. Sending cards to the kids at the McCrossin Boys Ranch, St. Joseph Indian School and St. Jude’s Children Hospital was something she enjoyed doing for years. Doris was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church where she was involved in the Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters. She was a life member of the Goodwin VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Grateful for having shared Doris’ life are her two sons: Dennis (Connie) Jaeger and Gary (Gail) Jaeger both of Goodwin, SD; her five grandchildren: Crystal Jaeger, Carmen Jaeger, Derek (Katherine) Jaeger and Kevin (Carrie) Jaeger and Andrea Jaeger; two great-grandchildren: Mikaela Schaefer and Lillian Jaeger; her siblings: Gene Swanz, Belle Fourche, SD, Mildred Niehus, Armour, SD, Janie (Muriel) Carmi, IL, Joan, Lincoln, NB, Donna (Jack) Weber, Watertown, SD and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter-in-law, Dawn Jaeger and one brother, Don Swanz.
