She was born Dec. 16, 1917, in Bickleton, and attended school in Yakima, Goldendale and White Salmon. She graduated from Goldendale High School in 1935. She was born Dec. 16, 1917, in Bickleton, and attended school in Yakima, Goldendale and White Salmon. She graduated from Goldendale High School in 1935. Following high school graduation, Ferguson attended business college in Yakima and then worked for a mortuary in Toppenish, as a secretary and bookkeeper. She married Raymond Ferguson in Nov. 1936, in a ceremony at the home of her parents, in Yakima. The couple lived on the ranch on Chamberlain Flats until 1970, when they sold the ranch and moved to a smaller place next to Stonehenge, near Maryhill. Her husband died in 1983. Ruth move to Goldendale in 1992, and to Golden View Terrace Assisted Living in May of this year. Ferguson was active in the Maryhill Women's Club and was particularly interested in the Maryhill Community Church, donating much time and funds to its restoration and maintenance. In addition, she was a member of the Grange for more than 60 years, and was also active in Widowed Persons Service and other local organizations. She volunteered actively in the community. Ferguson was named the Klickitat County Volunteer of the Year for 2005, and was the 2005 Outstanding Senior Achievement Honoree by the Southwest Washington Agency on Aging and the Klickitat Senior Council. Ferguson was also very active in visitation of the local nursing home until it closed and then visiting the nursing homes in The Dalles and Hood River. Her husband, Ray, a brother, Deryl Zumwalt, and her son, Earl, preceded her in death. Survivors include two sisters, Francis Tribe and Maxine Olson; a son, Ken; six grandchildren. and eight great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept, 22 at Mr. View Cemetery in Goldendale, followed by a gathering at the Goldendale Grange. Erdman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial suggested to Maryhill Community Church, or the charity of donor's choice. ************************************************ The Goldendale Sentinel, February 21, 1935: Weekend guests at the home of Mrs. Sara A. Perry, county superintendent, included her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Walther, of Cooks, and her niece, Miss Ruth Zumwalt, of Bingen. The guests returned to their homes Sunday afternoon.
