Mrs. Powell was born May 21, 1924 in Ridgeville, SC, a daughter of Joseph Peter Varner and Annie Salisbury Varner. She was a retired flower vendor at the Coastal Carolina Flea Market. She was a member of St. John The Beloved Catholic Church in Summerville. Survivors include her husband, Alfred Thomas Powell, Sr. of Summerville; four stepsons, Alfred T. Powell, Jr. of Port Charlotte, FL, Jack G. Powell of Poolesville, MD, Duane F. Powell of Gaithersburg, MD, and Robert P. Powell of Chandler, AZ; five stepdaughters, Helen P. O'Doherty of San Francisco, CA, Rose Marie P. Chambers of Pensacola, FL, Marty Lynn P. Charlton of Hagerstown, MD, Sue Ellen P. Mello of Tallahassee, FL, and Mary Grace P.
