She was born December 26, 1930 in Stokes County to Joel Hurby Wood and mother Nina Dodson. She was a member of Northview Primitive Baptist Church where she served as an active member for several years as long as her health permitted. She was also a member of the Home Extension Club, was a homemaker and cared for her grandchildren and other children of the community. Reynolds Hospice Home surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 26, 1930 in Stokes County to Joel Hurby Wood and mother Nina Dodson. She was a member of Northview Primitive Baptist Church where she served as an active member for several years as long as her health permitted. She was also a member of the Home Extension Club, was a homemaker and cared for her grandchildren and other children of the community. An 11 a.m. funeral service was held Monday, August 22, 2011 at Northview Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Milton Gunter officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Young. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, William Raymond Young, of the home; daughters, Wanda George and husband Jerry of Sandy Ridge, Janelle Kent and husband Terry, Marlene Bottoms and husband Mike, both of Danbury; grandchildren, Christy Tuttle and husband Kevin, Lori George, Joel Kent, Jeremy Kent, Bradley Bottoms and wife Tracie and Tasha Bottoms; sisters, Angeline Nelson of Walnut Cove and Lucy Fagg of Danbury; great-grandchildren Jack Tuttle, Jesse Tuttle, Isaac George and Savannah Bottoms. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Burroughs Funeral Home and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northview Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Wayne Stevens, 1045 Ryans Acre Drive, Walnut Cove, NC 27052; Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Stokes County, PO Box 863, Walnut Cove, NC 27052 or ALS Association, Jim Catfish Hunter Chapter, 120-101 Penmarc Drive, Raleigh, NC 27603.
