FRED BOETTGER MOURNS DEATH OF MOTHER Mrs. Henry Ewoldt, who has been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Fred Boettger for the past two years, passed away on Thursday morning, April 5. The remains were taken to the Odhe Funeral Home in Manning, Iowa, on Friday. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon with burial in the Hayes Township cemetery. Dorothea Catherine Vinke was born on September 21, 1848. She was born in the village of Schoenberg, Schleswig Holstein, Germany. She was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Vinke. In the year 1865 and when she was 17 years of age she came to the United States, landing in Davenport, Iowa. In Davenport she met her future husband, Mr. Henry Ewoldt, and on June 16, 1867, they united in marriage. To this union there were born 14 children, five of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Ewoldt is survived by her husband and nine children. Her husband last March attained the great age of 93 years, and much sympathy is felt for the old gentleman who will miss and mourn his life's partner so much. The children who deeply bereaved in this loss are as follows: Mrs. Emilie Schumann of West Side, Mr. William Ewoldt of Denison, Mr. Henry Ewoldt of Oakland, Mrs. Emma Myrtus of Harlan, Mrs. Laura Schroeder of Blue Grass, Mrs. Louise Boettger of Spirit Lake, Mrs. Amanda Wunder of Dysart, Mrs. Clara Claussen of Manning, Mrs. Irene Meier of Harlan. There are also 35 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren bereaved by her death. Mrs. Ewoldt was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in Germany, and she came to this country with all the trust and hopefulness of youth. Here in her adopted land she lived a most useful and splendid life, and great numbers of people could testify to her kindliness and her good life through all the years. She was a very devoted wife and the best of mothers, and in the words of scripture it may be said with truth: "Her children rise up and call her blessed." Mrs. Ewoldt had not been in good health for about a year, but a month ago the change for the worst became apparent indeed. From then on she failed rapidly. On Monday night, last, the 2nd of April, she fell into a coma and from this she never regained consciousness, and on Thursday morning April 5, she passed peacefully away. She was 85 years, 6 months and 19 days when she fell in sleep. *Published in the Spirit Lake Beacon, Spirit Lake, Dickinson County, Iowa, April 12, 1934.
