She had been afflicted for sometime with an ulcerated sore on the foot and it was found necessary to resort to amputation, but this course failed to eradicate the poisonous impurities of the blood aud death resulted there from. They were the parents of 8 children, 4 still living in 1900: Ida, Edith, Caroline, Lydia, Amelia, April 29, 1901 - Carroll Sentinel - Mrs. Bernard Bernholz of Sheridan township died last Saturday from the effects of blood poisoning. Deceased was sixty-seven years of age and the mother of a large family of children among whom are Mrs. Geo. Tranter of this city and Mrs. Frank Reiber of Sheridan township, Mrs. Lydia Ehrks and Mrs. Caroline Larson of Charter Oak, Iowa, together with her husband who survives her. Mrs. Bernholz resided on the farm where she died for many years and was highly respected by residents of that community who loved the good old woman like a mother. The funeral will be held tomorrow, Rev. C.E. Bentley officiating. The remains will be interred in the city cemetery. Mrs. Dorethea Bernholtz was born in Mechlenberg, Germany, Oct. 6, 1834. She came to this country in 1854 and was married to her present husband at Davenport in 1857. She remained there and cared for the family while her husband served in the army during the civil war. In 1875 the family moved to Sheridan township where they have since resided.
