Description	:	Dorothea Walter, daughter of Henry J. and Dorothea Bartling Walter, was born in the German province of Hannover. She immigrated with her parents and siblings to Illinois, where they lived in Cook and Will Counties. Dorothea married William Stuenkel there in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rich Township, Cook County, Illinois, on Nov. 17, 1865. In the early 1880's the Stuenkels moved to Washington County, Nebraska, joining other members of their family that had already moved there. Fremont Tribune, Fremont, NE, Wednesday, 3 Apr 1918, p. 2 : FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. STUENKEL HELD AT HOOPER Hooper, April 3. - Funeral services for Mrs. Wm. Stuenkel were held from her late home at 1:30 Sunday and were followed by services at the Lutheran church east of town, the pastor, Rev. J. G. Lang, officiated. Deceased was born in Germany 73 years ago and came to this country with her parents. She was married in Illinois November 17, 1866 [sic]. There were fourteen children born to this union, ten of whom are living, who with the aged husband, mourn her loss. Mrs. Stuenkel was ill all winter and passed away at 3 a.m., Friday. The children present from a distance were her son, Emil, and wife of Tilden; Will of Meadow Grove, and daughters, Mrs. Will Joseph and her husband of Hoardville and Mrs. Ernest Mueller of Scribner. August, another son, of Nickerson was kept at home by the death of his 10-year-old daughter, Alice, who passed away Saturday noon, her trouble being spinal meningitis. She was sick only a week. Her funeral was held from the home at 1 p.m. yesterday. Both were buried in the Rev. Lang church cemetery.
