Dorothy A. Dreessen, age 101 of Wall Lake, Iowa died Sunday, March 8, 2015, at Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City, Iowa. Dorothy was born on August 27, 1913, in Fairfax, Iowa, to Joseph Pachta, III and Mary (Barta) Pachta. She moved with her family to a farm near Boyer, Iowa as a young child. She attended Stockholm No. 6 School in Crawford County. At the age of 12 she began working for a family taking care of the children and the household. She met the love of her life while working in the grocery store in Boyer, Iowa. On November 8, 1936 she was united in marriage to Alfred W. Dreessen in Boyer. They farmed in the Boyer and Wall Lake area until they retired and moved to Wall Lake in 1970. Dorothy enjoyed crafts of all kinds and spent many years decorating cakes for all occasions. She also loved to sew, and spent countless hours knitting and crocheting. Dorothy also enjoyed dancing, bowling and playing cards and was a member of many card clubs through the years. Shortly after her 100th birthday she became a resident of Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake where she enjoyed being around many friends and playing bingo. She was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Wall Lake and served as a Deacon and also served on the committee that built the new church. She is survived by two sons, William and his wife, Susan of Odebolt, Iowa and Robert and his wife, Norene of Sioux City, Iowa; grandchildren Debra Wagner, Tamara (Francis) Riedell, Brenda (Bill) Behling, Deidre (Larry) Hurlburt, Michelle (Bob) Goodvin and David (Karen) Dreessen; 14 great-grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren; one sister, Rosemary Kohorst of Carroll, Iowa; three sister-in-laws Darlene Dreessen of Wall Lake, Dorothy Hollander of Phoenix, Arizona and Donna Miller and brother-in-law Dr. Ralph Alter, both of Coffeeville, Kansas; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, her parents, parents-in-law, her brother, William Pachta, her sister, Lillian Aldag and one great-granddaughter.
