Description	:	Dorothy Anderson Kibler, 87, a longtime resident of Annapolis, died of natural causes Oct. 8 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a brief illness. Born Aug. 5, 1918, in Baltimore, and the daughter of the late Emory and Rilla Anderson, Mrs. Kibler graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1938 and completed her college degree. Born Aug. 5, 1918, in Baltimore, and the daughter of the late Emory and Rilla Anderson, Mrs. Kibler graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1938 and completed her college degree. Mrs. Kibler was a retired school teacher, who first taught at Belvedere Elementary School in Arnold, then at the Naval Academy Primary School. During her retirement, she worked as a substitute teacher there and as the Anne Arundel County coordinator of Head Start. She also substituted at the Asbury Community Christian Preschool in Arnold. In the summer she was a tutor at her home, helping youngsters with handwriting, reading, mathematics and other basic skills at no charge. For her outstanding service and contributions to the Foreign Affairs Seminars at the State Department in Washington and the Anne Arundel Community College for more than five years, she received the Henderson-Satterthwaite Citation. She also enjoyed serving as a hostess and guide at the Governor's Mansion during the Schaefer and Glendening administrations and planning bus trips for seniors in area AARP chapters and her church. She volunteered with the blood pressure checks at the Annapolis Mall and helped at the White House Social Office. For her extensive volunteer work, she was named The Capital's Volunteer of the Week on July 9, 1989. A member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, she also belonged to the Anne Arundel Retired Teachers Association, College Women of America, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Eastern Star, the Sojourners and several other groups. At Asbury United Methodist Church she served on the staff-parish relations committee and the church administrative board. She was a military wife, who traveled to duty stations with her husband of 60 years, the late Edward Lynne Kibler, a retired Naval officer. She was the sister of the late Ruth Zeman. Surviving are three sisters, Thelma Cole of Millersville, Vivian Wayson of Glen Burnie and Gloria Prudhomme of Coral Springs, Fla.; and seven nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Asbury United Methodist Church, Arnold. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 78 Church Road, Arnold, MD 21012.
