Dorothy was born June 22, 1929 in Newcastle, Nebraska; the daughter of John "Fred" and Elizabeth L. (Conway) Day. Dorothy attended school in Newcastle. She would often tell the story of her Father bringing her to town in the family wagon every Monday for a week of school. Dorothy was born June 22, 1929 in Newcastle, Nebraska; the daughter of John "Fred" and Elizabeth L. (Conway) Day. Dorothy attended school in Newcastle. She would often tell the story of her Father bringing her to town in the family wagon every Monday for a week of school. She stayed at Anne Marron's house and then her Father returned to take her home Friday after school. Dorothy was united in marriage to Gordon Dean Heaton October 8, 1947 in Newcastle, Nebraska after he returned home from World War II. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1955. Gordon died Thanksgiving Day 1998. Dorothy worked at Johnson Biscuit Company, Holy Spirit Nursing Home, Westwood Nursing Home and Crescent Park Elementary School. She and Gordon were very active in the Disabled American Veterans and she was a member of the Auxiliary. They spent countless hours volunteering for several years at the Disabled American Veterans Thrift Store in Riverside. Dorothy was a loving caregiver in her home to her Mother for over 20 years. She loved spending time with family at gatherings and sporting events. She was always worrying about others and never herself. Dorothy's many neighbors over the years grew to expect her daily wave and friendly smile as they passed by her home on Idlewood Street. She loved to keep in touch with others on the phone and cherished each and every visit from family and friends. She said the Rosary daily. Dorothy was a long time member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and of Cathedral of the Epiphany Catholic Church in Sioux City. Dorothy was blessed to have the services and relationship with Father Collison from Sacred Heart Church during her three year stay at Westwood. Dorothy was a wonderful loving Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great-Great Grandmother. Known to many of her great-grandchildren as "Great-Great". Survivors include her 7 children, their spouses, 15 grandchildren, their spouses; 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson: Son Ken of Little Rock, AR, special friend, Marilyn Garrett, and his daughters Kelly Heaton of Sioux City and her children Lauren and Connor; Melissa Heaton (Joel Gendelman) of Seattle, WA and their children Jacob and Sadie. Daughter Linda (Jim) Fetterman of Olathe, KS and her sons Mark Davis of Kansas City, Mo and his children Lamanda (Johny) Tamim and their son Simon, Casey (Joe) Saccomano, and Dakota Davis all of Colorado ; Brian Davis of Olathe, KS. Daughter Yvonne (Les) Padget of Goodyear, AZ and their children Alesha (Chris) Henderson of San Tan Valley, AZ and their children Abigail and Evan; Eric (Gretchen) Padget of Maple Grove, MN and their daughters Katelyn and Elyse; Jason (Kate) Padget of Louisville, KY and their sons Jackson and William. Daughter Mary (Ken) Luse of Urbandale, IA and her son Travis (Emily) Hamilton of Urbandale, IA and their sons Trae and Jace. Son Ron (Debi) Heaton of Sioux City and their sons Corey (Staci) Heaton of Sioux Falls, SD and their children Tristan and Kylee; Brett "Spud" (Sadie) Heaton of Sioux City and their children Maddyx, Hendrix and Phoenyx. Son Dave Heaton of Sioux City and his children Aaron (Corrine) Heaton of Sioux City and their children Makayla, Ben and Carson; Tiffany (Matt) Dorr of Sioux City and their sons Gavin and Kameron. Son Kevin (Kathy) Heaton of Sioux City and their children Kristi, Kyle and Kasey. Survivors also include Brother-in-law Glenn (Shirley) Heaton of Dakota Dunes, SD; Sisters-in-law Mildred Dorr of Creighton, NE, Evelyn Litz of Dixon, NE, Donna (Chris) Christian of Erie, CO and Bernadette Day of Newcastle, NE; along with numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband Gordon of 51 years, she was preceded in death by her brothers Jack, Paul and Ray Day and her sister Madeline Dougherty. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Care Initiatives Hospice or Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City. The family would like to thank the staff at Westwood Nursing Home for the loving care given in such a passionate manner to our Mother. The friendships she developed there with the residents over her three year stay were priceless.
