Seurer, 87, Hoven, SD, died Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Faulkton Healthcare Center, Faulkton, SD. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Hoven, with Father Lance Oser, Celebrant. Burial will follow at the Church Cemetery. Organist will be Alice Simon and St. Anthony's Church Choir will sing will sing "Be not Afraid", "I have loved You", "23rd Psalm", "Blest are They", "I know that my Redeemer Lives", and "On eagle's Wings". Dorothy's grandsons will be placing the pall on the casket and her daughters will be offertory gift bearers. Eucharistic Minister will be Don Seurer and lector will be Dennis Kaup. Mass servers will be Jeff Hageman, Dana Hageman, and Derick Arbach. There will be a Wake Service at the Church 5:00 PM Tuesday with Vonnie Reuer singing "Blessings" and "Gentle Woman". Visitation begins at 4:00 P.M. Dorothy Christine Kaup, daughter of Christine (Wickert) and Joseph J. Kaup, was born in a hospital at Redfield, SD on September 19, 1923. She was raised on her parents' farm 7 miles south and 1 ½ miles east of Hoven. This is the area that she attended East Carr Rural School through the 8th grade. She attended Lebanon High School, Lebanon, SD, graduating with the Class of 1941. She then attended and earned her Elementary Education degree from Northern State Teacher's College in Aberdeen, SD. She married Albert Seurer at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hoven on June 26, 1946. Following a total of 30 years of teaching, mainly in Potter County rural schools, she retired in the early 1980's. She was a member of St. Anthony's Church and the Altar Society. She also belonged to the Hoven Legion Auxiliary. Her hobbies included solving crossword puzzles and reading. Mrs. Seurer is survived by two daughters—Linda (Mike) Coyne of Hoven and Vicki (Gordon) Schmieg of Florence, SD; 1 brother Loren (Laura) Kaup of Hoven; 2 sisters—Bonnie Huber of St. Michael, MN and Sharon (Roy) Swensen of Watertown, SD; and three grandsons—Jon (Lynn) Coyne of Tea, SD, Joel Coyne of Mitchell, SD, and Jeffrey Coyne of Aberdeen; three great grandsons-Cameron, Alex, and Owen Coyne of Tea; 1 step granddaughter Jessica Schmieg of Aberdeen; and 2 step great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her father on February 18, 1973; her mother on February 3, 1990; her husband on December 19, 2003; and 2 sisters (JoAnn Zweber and an infant). Casketbearers will be Jerry Brickner, Chuck Simon, Frank Zweber, Bob Dreis, and Mike Seurer of Hoven, and Jim Seurer of Watertown. Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle, is in charge of arrangements.
