Description	:	One of seven children of John and Anna (Merfeld) Schmitt. Growing up in rural Marble Rock, she attended elementary school at St. Mary's Roseville and graduated from Marble Rock High School in 1929. On January 31, 1934, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Roseville, she married Earl Nicholas Staudt. They farmed and raised their family in rural Marble Rock. Dorothy embraced rural life, having an active role in many aspects of the family farm, as well as meticulously keeping a home, yard and garden for her family. On January 31, 1934, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Roseville, she married Earl Nicholas Staudt. They farmed and raised their family in rural Marble Rock. Dorothy embraced rural life, having an active role in many aspects of the family farm, as well as meticulously keeping a home, yard and garden for her family. Dorothy enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, word games, playing cards, gardening, sewing, needlework and crafts. She crocheted afghans for all 18 of her grandchildren, just an example of the numerous handmade items she crafted. Her grandchildren will remember overnight stays on the farm, and numerous games of rummy with their grandmother. Dorothy's homemaking career extended from helping to make meals for threshers to later years when she made holiday meals for her children and their families. She kept family as her first priority, encouraging and delighting in family celebrations and gatherings. Dorothy was a life long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Roseville. She had been a member of the Jolly Seniors at Marble Rock and was also a 4-H leader. After her husband's passing in 1993, Dorothy continued to live independently on the farmstead and the home she was so proud of until she became a resident of 9th Street Chautauqua in the summer of 2004. Dorothy will be remembered for her subtle sense of humor, her deep faith, love of family, and her perseverance and graceful acceptance of life's later years.
