Description	:	Dorothy Gayer Dorothy Darlene Gayer, 95, of Ottumwa, died at 12:16 p.m. April 17, 2018 at the Bloomfield Care Center in Bloomfield. She was born August 2, 1922 in Ottumwa to Earl and Edna Houk Gruwell. She married William Edward Gayer on July 31, 1944 and he preceded her in death on November 17, 1974. She married Bill McLaughlin on April 15, 1977. He preceded her in death in 1997. Dorothy attended Ottumwa High School. Read More	Dorothy Gayer Dorothy Darlene Gayer, 95, of Ottumwa, died at 12:16 p.m. April 17, 2018 at the Bloomfield Care Center in Bloomfield. She was born August 2, 1922 in Ottumwa to Earl and Edna Houk Gruwell. She married William Edward Gayer on July 31, 1944 and he preceded her in death on November 17, 1974. She married Bill McLaughlin on April 15, 1977. He preceded her in death in 1997. Dorothy attended Ottumwa High School. She worked as the Activity Coordinator at Good Samaritan Center, retiring in 1988. She then worked for AARP Senior Home Care and for the Wapello County Attorney's Office. She was a member of Four Square Evangelical Church where she played the organ and piano. She also played keyboard in several bands. Dorothy loved being a foster parent as she cared for 27 foster children throughout the years. Surviving is a daughter, Evelyn "Sally" (Charles) Pilcher; a son, Bill (Vonnie Warrick) Gayer both of Ottumwa; foster daughters Connie Montgomery and Tina Brown; Bob Moffatt, whom she thought of as a son; 4 grandchildren, Deb (Ted) Robinson, Rich (Tammy) Pilcher, Martha Price and Becky (Jorge) Hernandez; 8 great-grandchildren; 10 great great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law Fran Gruwell of Colorado. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Terry Baldwin, a brother, Leo Gruwell; a sister and brother-in-law, Revs. Viola and George King. Her body has been cremated. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with her nephew, Rev. Jerry King officiating. Inurnment will be in Shaul Cemetery The family will be present an hour prior to the service to greet friends. Memorials may be made to the family. Published on April 18, 2018
