Description	:	My life has been an interesting one, at least to me. My father, John Dick, born in Dolton, and mother, Marie Heinz, a native of Oklahoma, were parents to four children. I had two brothers and one sister, Billie Nicholson who lives in Freeman. One brother, Ed, is deceased and the other, Marvin (known to us as "Bud") lives in California. My father, John Dick, born in Dolton, and mother, Marie Heinz, a native of Oklahoma, were parents to four children. I had two brothers and one sister, Billie Nicholson who lives in Freeman. One brother, Ed, is deceased and the other, Marvin (known to us as "Bud") lives in California. I was born in Dolton, South Dakota in 1914. At that time there was much more to Dolton than there is now. I attended Dolton Elementary School and graduated from Dolton High School. After high school, I went to Freeman Junior College. I went to night school until I had four years of college. I then taught school for 12 years. Of course, these were all rural schools which meant that all eight grades were in my charge. Those were good days. I taught at the last school for 7 years. It was a dear friend who introduced me to Clifford Preheim. We were married June 15, 1937. I continued to teach for a while after we were married. I joined the Salem Mennonite Church and was baptized. Rev. P. R. Schroeder instructed me and he also performed our marriage ceremony. We lived on the farm located about eight miles southeast of Freeman for several years and then moved to Freeman. During this time I worked as a receptionist at the Freeman Clinic. Clifford worked as an electrician after our farm experience. He had an accident where he sustained burns over the entire right side of his body from electrical hot wires. He was hospitalized for a week in Sioux Falls and finished recuperating in Freeman Hospital for 6 to 8 weeks. He recovered sufficiently to carry on his electrician occupation. It was in 1985 that Clifford became ill and passed away. Ralph Kauffman and I were married May 1, 1992. Some of my interests and hobbies of the past have been artwork, singing, and entertaining guests in our home or at our cabin by Lake Madison. Thank you for the chance to give a little history of my life. Ralph and Dorothy moved to the Salem Home in 1997. Ralph died November 15, 2004 and Dorothy became a resident of Oakview Terrace in October 2006. She passed away on December 9, 2008. She is survived by one sister, Billie Nicholson, Freeman, brother Bud (Dorothy) Dicks, Hisperia, California, sister-in-law Deloris Dicks, Leeds, Utah, step-daughter Dr. Bonnie Hemry, Anchorage, Alaska, step-son Dr. Edward Kauffman, Sedona, Arizona, and their families plus numerous relatives and cousins.
